They say Brooklyn is the new Manhattan. If that is so then it wont be long before the people in Brooklyn can no longer afford to eat out in their local pubs and taverns. So i suggest that you all living in Brooklyn run to Tavern on Dean while you still can afford it and before the price of a burgers looks more like the price of a ribeye. Which brings the point of me writing this article as both the burgers and rib-eyes at Tavern on Dean are on the money, which being as they both are relatively still are affordable are a good deal.
The atmosphere at tavern on Dean is what you would expect at a local pub. It is mostly filled with locals at the bar watching sports on the television while Rock/Soul music plays in the background. The decor is dark wood with retro trinkets around the restaurant and on the walls. Although I rarely ever see children in there I expect that they do come in because there are crayons and paper table cloths to color on. Perhaps they are for daters who would like to draw hearts and clouds or tic tac toe while waiting for their food? There is a back room away from the bar for those of you who are looking for more privacy or just to be away from the action as it does tend to get noisy when there is a full crowd there. If you prefer to sit outside there is a garden room off to the side complete with local art work for you to view and appreciate. The greatest attribute to the atmosphere is the friendly and very local wait staff. They seem to be your neighbors, friends, and cousins serving you. Although the wait staff for the most part seem to be efficient in getting your food and taking your order they are extremely laid back and casual. The feel is like they stopped by to help their auntie out in the kitchen. If you come more then once they will even start to remember your name and your usual. Maybe this laid back approach is do to the fact that the wait staff works on a tip pooling system - meaning they work in shifts and pool all their tips together and split them or maybe they are all just really relaxed and happy to be at work.
Although I do enjoy the crayons and wait staff they certainly do not keep me coming back. It is the hamburgers. In all of my adult life I have been on a mission to find the best hamburger (cheeseburger to be accurate) in town. My search is over! Tavern on Dean in Prospect Heights has beet out the competition. There cheeseburgers are incredible juicy and perfectly cooked to order. Served on a perfect bun and accompanied by the necessary fix-ins and fresh cut french fries. You can get pretty much any fix-ins you prefer on your burger such as caramelized onions, mushrooms, or bacon as well as any dipping sauce you choose from their wide selection for your fries. By far this is the best burger experience I have had to date. The greatest part is that it was in my own backyard in Brooklyn. If you are not the burger type don't worry they have a huge assortment of steaks and chops in addition to their amazing appetizers and desserts to keep you coming back.
Gail King some how when Oprah sent you to brooklyn to find the best burger you past this little tavern right up. I suggest you take the "O" Jet and make your way back to The BK and taste one of these delicious burgers. Tavern on Dean is Located on the corner of Underhill and Dean. It is a short walk from the C train at Clinton- Washington.
